Temple Beth El is a community of learners. We provide learning opportunities for adults, in addition to those we offer our children and teenagers.
Adult education offerings are dynamic and responsive to the interests and needs of our members.
Jewish Geography: Personal Reflections on Jewish Life around the World
We have explored growing up Jewish in Poland and Kazakhstan, growing up Jewish in South Carolina, and Jewish life in Morocco. We have also learned about 700 Years of Jewish Life in China, in the cities of Kaifeng and Shanghai. And this year, we learned about Jewish life in Prague and Budapest.
We look forward to continuing our explorations of Jewish life throughout the world!
Hebrew Language Study
Beginning and intermediate-level language study of Hebrew has been led by our rabbis or by native-speaking congregants.
As interest arises, we have formed study groups on such topics as:
- Modern Jewish Heroes
- Jewish Music
- Jewish Philosophers
- Jewish Medical Ethics
- Text Analysis: Genesis
- Great books: The Thirteen-Petaled Rose, by R. Adin Steinsaltz
Seen any great Jewish-themed films lately? Our most recent exploration has been of A Cantor’s Tale, dir. Erik Greenberg Anjou, about Brooklyn-born cantor Jack Mendelson and the chazzanut tradition.
