Temple Beth El is committed to providing dinner for people in need through the Community Meal Program coordinated by the Lancaster Council of Churches at The First Reformed Church at 40 East Orange Street, Lancaster. This is the site for Tuesday meals that are provided throughout the year by various groups in the area. We provide the meal on the Tuesday before Christmas. This year, the dinner will be held on Tuesday, December 22.
The church estimates we will serve 200 – 250 people. You can help by volunteering, providing items on the list, or providing funds. The Temple’s Simon Lever Fund donates seed money for Social Action. We thank them again this year. Without financial support, this meal would not possible.
You can make this happen again! 15 people are needed to work.
There are 2 shifts:
3:00 PM to 5:00 PM
5 people to bring items into the kitchen and prepare food, roll plastic utensils into napkins and set up tables
5:00 PM to 7:30 PM (dinner is served at 5:30 PM)
1 person at the door to welcome guests
1 person at the bottom of the steps to usher guests to dine
2 – 3 people to move around the dining room to address concerns, assist and visit with guests
5-7 in the kitchen serving and cleaning up the kitchen
The menu will feature chili con carne. The ingredients for the chili will be purchased in advance, chopped meat and onions will be pre-cooked.
